#World's Biggest Stag Beetle #Achievement109mm

Looking for a beetle with serious flair? The Giraffe Stag Beetle (Prosopocoilus giraffa keisuke) is here to impress! It holds the title of the world's longest stag beetle, reaching an impressive length of 121mm. Among the stag beetles, it's undoubtedly one of the most iconic.

Adults are resilient to both heat and cold, thriving with proper ventilation. Known for their longevity, they can lead a happy life, making them a fantastic addition to your collection.

PGK's care, morphology, subspecies, and variations are diverse, making the rearing process incredibly intriguing. Achieving a large individual feels truly rewarding!

  • Native Habitat: Flores island and Lombok, Idonesia
  • Features: Super long jaws with sharp teeth, making up almost half of their body size
  • Size: 40-120mm (the one in the picture is 109mm)
  • Adult Lifespan: 6-12 months
  • Larvae to Adult: 5-12 months
  • Behavior: They tend to be aggressive and are fierce and powerful.
  • Substrate and Air Temperature: 68-78°F (18-25 °C) / Humidity: 50-70%
  • Beetle Food: Beetle jelly
  • Larvae Food:  Kawaratake Kinshi
  • Difficulty: Suitable for beginners
  • Rearing Tips: Best kept individually, both as larvae and adults.

Achievement: 109mm

Beetle Larvae go through three stages: L1, L2, and L3. After the L3 stage, they pupate and transform into adult beetles! The pictured larva is either L2 or L3 and takes 5-12 months to become an adult beetle.

**Caution!!! Please do not release them.

Larvae Rearing Tips:

  1. PGK larvae have a broad diet, eating materials like decayed wood, flake soil, and kinshi.
  2. Choosing slightly aged kawaratake kinshi is ideal, it helps to develop longer mandibles, and their transition to adulthood is faster.
  3. If you aim for larger beetles with elongated mandibles, temperature control is recommended!
  4. Due to the large stag of PGK, placing the kinshi bottle vertically may not provide enough space for very large individuals to pupate. Consider placing the kinshi bottle horizontally and mark the side facing up, with anti-roll precautions.
